No phone use at school. More and more countries have resorted to this measure, and it has been practiced for years in the Veliko Tarnovo school. The question is whether it will be finally introduced throughout the country.
Days before the start of the new school year, Greece has taken this step, requiring students to hand over their devices to their teachers. After classes, the phones will be returned to them again.
In Bulgaria, some schools solve the problem with the use of mobile devices by introducing an internal rule for their use. The ban, introduced a few days ago in Western European countries, was introduced two years ago in a school in Veliko Tarnovo.
“For two years, we have introduced a similar practice in the junior high school. In the first lesson, the phones are collected in special boxes that are locked in the teacher’s room and given to the students after the end of the lessons,” explained the director of the “Petko Rachev Slaveykov” OU, Danka Borisova before Bulgaria ON AIR.
Parents also approve of the measure. If necessary, they establish a relationship with their children’s teachers.
“I don’t think that children need their phones during the school day. The children are entrusted to the teachers, so they are safe, parents have nothing to worry about,” Alexander Topuzov believes.
The measure does not bother children either. Christian lives in England, where the mobile phone ban has been in place for six months.
“When we stay at school, we have to leave it at the reception. I mostly use it to call someone,” he shared.
In some of the schools in Europe, sanctions are also provided for violators of the ban, such as community service activities after school hours.
The Minister of Education in our southern neighbor explained the measure as an attempt to achieve greater concentration of children in class. The filming of videos in the building of educational institutions and their uploading to social networks is also strictly prohibited.
