Hanover – After details of the new Corona regulation and thus the Corona rules for Lower Saxony became known during the weekly press conference of the Corona crisis team on Tuesday, the draft was presented today in the health committee of the state parliament. The actually planned Freedom Day in Lower Saxony on Sunday, March 20, 2022, is canceled because almost all Corona rules in Lower Saxony will remain in place until April 2, 2022.

Nevertheless, the state government is introducing some corona relaxations in the new Corona regulation for Lower Saxony. Heiger Scholz, head of the crisis team, said on Thursday about the set of rules that will apply in the country from Saturday. The background is the change in the Infection Protection Act planned by the federal government, which, according to Scholz, “does not just put the essential tools in the closet, but throws them away”.
The federal draft provides that the federal states could also decide on more extensive restrictions for individual hotspots. However, the number of corona infections and the number of hospital admissions of infected people are currently higher than ever in Lower Saxony. The deputy head of the crisis team, Claudia Schröder, therefore emphasized that the federal government had explicitly pointed out that the hotspot rule could also be applied to the entire federal state if a more dangerous virus variant occurred or if the hospitals were at risk of being overloaded due to the high number of infections.
Corona rules in Lower Saxony: football stadiums can be fully utilized again from Saturday
Both the SPD, the CDU and the Greens criticized the federal government’s easing plan, which was also discussed on Thursday in a federal-state group at the level of the heads of government, in the state parliament’s health committee as irresponsible. The FDP, on the other hand, argued that if the pandemic situation changed, there would also have to be changed corona rules.

Corona regulation in Lower Saxony: relaxation of the mask requirement for elementary school students as well as in bars and discos
With the easing of the mask requirement in clubs and discos, the state is also implementing a decision by the Lüneburg Higher Administrative Court: According to this, guests must wear an FFP2 mask when dancing at least until April 2nd, but may take it off when sitting and eating. However, the FFP2 mask requirement in shops should continue to apply. And the obligation to test for supervised children from the age of three is to be extended by two weeks. It stipulates that the children or close relatives must submit three tests per week. Originally, this requirement was limited to the end of the week.
As announced, three mandatory tests per week remain mandatory at schools due to the Corona rules in Lower Saxony.
