New Road Toll Regulations in Bulgaria: Information for Romanian Citizens

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs Romanian citizens who are in, transiting or intending to travel to Bulgaria that from July 1, the new provisions regarding road tolls (TOLL) for freight and passenger vehicles will enter into force in this country .

Thus, for means of transport weighing between 3.5 and 12 tons, inclusive, depending on their ecological category, the following road taxes will be paid: between 10 and 13 stotinci for each kilometer traveled on the highway; between 6 and 9 hundredths per kilometer traveled on category I republican roads; between 4 and 7 hundredths per kilometer traveled on second category republican roads, writes Agerpres.

For means of transport weighing more than 12 tons, which have 2 or 3 axles, depending on their ecological category, the following road taxes will be paid: between 26 and 30 hundred cents for each kilometer traveled on the highway; between 22 and 25 hundredths per kilometer traveled on category I republican roads; between 19 and 23 hundredths per kilometer traveled on second category republican roads.

For means of transport weighing more than 12 tons, which have 4 or more axles, depending on their ecological category, the following road taxes will be paid: between 35 and 43 hundred cents for each kilometer traveled on the highway;

between 32 and 39 hundredths per kilometer traveled on category I republican roads; between 29 and 37 hundredths per kilometer traveled on second category republican roads.

For coaches weighing between 3.5 and 12 tons, inclusive, depending on their category and class, the following road taxes will be paid for each kilometer traveled: between 4 and 8 hundredths for each kilometer traveled on the highway; between 3 and 7 hundredths per kilometer traveled on category I republican roads; between 2 and 5 hundredths per kilometer traveled on second category republican roads.

For buses weighing more than 12 tons, depending on their category and class, tolls will be paid: between 5 and 9 hundred cents for each kilometer traveled on the highway; between 4 and 8 hundredths per kilometer traveled on category I republican roads; between 3 and 6 cents per kilometer traveled on second category republican roads.

In the case of means of transport weighing more than 3.5 tons, which use alternative fuel as the only source, for the use of the road infrastructure subject to the road tax regime, a TOLL fee will be paid in the amount of 50% of the value determined for the respective medium model of transport for category EURO VI, EEV.

In this context, the importance of correctly informing Romanian drivers, of the early purchase of electronic vignettes and the compliant payment of TOLL type road taxes for the use of the public road infrastructure in Bulgaria, in accordance with the legislation in force, is emphasized.
