There have been riots in several Swedish cities in recent days.

So far, 26 people have been arrested: 18 in Linköping and eight in Norrköping, the police write in a press release Monday morning.

In Malmö, it started at 11 pm on Sunday. Then a lot of people gathered in Ramel’s road and several fires were started. Police moved out with several patrols to try to disperse the angry crowd.

To the newspaper Sydsvenskan The police said that there were about a hundred people, mainly young people, who threw stones at the patrols. They responded by using tear gas, states the police.

– Several people have set fire to car tires, rubbish bins and other debris, and people have even dragged trailers from a petrol station and set them on fire, says spokesman Patric Fors in the Police Region south to the news agency TT.

SUNDAY EVENING: Several police patrols moved out to Ramels väg in the Rosengård district in Malmö on Sunday night to handle new riots.

School fire

Just after 00.30, a school was also set on fire. Police say they have secured the area so that firefighters can get to places.

– There was a fairly large fire at Rosengårdsskolan, and we had to escort the fire brigade so that they could put out the fire. It is unclear how much of the school has been destroyed, Fors stated at 3.30.

– We describe it as violent riots, says Fors til Expressen.

He says that the police were met by intensive stone-throwing from young people. Danish police buses also had to be used.

– It is part of the police’s special police tactics that vehicles are used to disperse crowds, among other things. There are specially trained drivers behind the wheel, it may look violent but it is part of our special police tactics, says Fors.

MALMÖ: Night to Monday, the police had to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The situation calmed down during the night, but minor fires were reported elsewhere in Rosengård. The fire service has not been able to respond to all the fires because it is not safe. Fires in cars, sheds and containers where there was no danger of spreading were thus not extinguished.

Aftonbladet writes that 11 people have been arrested after the night’s riots and that the police had to drive in with cars to disperse the crowd. The police, who have also reported sabotage against blue light activities and damage, write that eight have been taken care of for general disorder while three people have been arrested in connection with preparation for general destruction.

No one was injured

There have been no reports of injuries in the riots, which the police describe as violent.

– As far as I know, no one has been injured, neither police nor stone-throwing youth. Later Monday, we will have a clearer picture of how many have been arrested and brought in by the police, says Fors.

Several patrols remain in the area through the night in case new riots flare up.

Coronbrenning

Also Saturday night and night until Sunday, riots broke out in the Malmö district where stones and firebombs were thrown at the police. A bus and several cars were set on fire.

The controversial Danish politician and right-wing extremist Rasmus Paludan has in recent days planned and carried out several Koran burnings in Sweden. In this connection, there have been a number of clashes between the police and counter-protesters.
