Gaps in the school of the missing Ivana from Dupnitsa have been discovered by an inspection by experts of the State Agency for Child Protection (DAZD). This was announced to the BNR by Mariana Ilieva, Head of Department in the Main Directorate “Control of Children’s Rights” in the Agency.
In the “12+3” show, she said that Ivana’s classmates are worried because it is claimed in the public space that they are guilty. The experts talked to them to put them at ease and answered all their questions so they wouldn’t feel guilty about what happened to Ivana.
Maria Ilieva explained that the results of the inspection are being processed and that the report will be ready in 10 days.
“In truth, there are gaps in the school environment. The class teacher did not work with the students on the issues of violence. The psychologist did not work with Ivana. The problems with the specific child, which were visible in the last year, have not been fully investigated,” said the DAZK expert.
And he added that “information has not reached the social workers to make a comprehensive assessment of the risks and what kind of support should be given to the parents in order to prevent the deep-rooted problems”.
Maria Ilieva explained that in the school environment it is necessary to talk about violence and about children with aggressive and different behavior who are isolated. “They need to be talked about in order to be accepted and socialized. Regarding the parents, I understand their concern, because the problems in the behavior and health of the children are the most difficult to accept. Then the institutions need to intervene to help the child,” commented Ilieva.
She specified that the report would only contain the information they gathered from the school: What she shared, she generally didn’t share. A psychologist has not spoken to her. She did not share about verbal and physical abuse.
I think the girl needed support. It has been isolated since last year. It has changed its behavior dramatically this year. A psychologist and a specialist can categorically say why it happened. But the school should have informed the other protection authorities.
Even before the report is ready, it is clear that violations have been found in the school and the document will contain recommendations and prescriptions, said the expert from the DAPS.
“We will obligatorily point out and remind the obligation of the school and all teachers, personally, to inform the DASP, the Directorate of Social Assistance and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as more work of the psychologist and submission of information by the teachers to the psychologist and the director, in order to provide the necessary support. Cases when the school cannot cope with the different behavior of such children, must inform the social services, says Maria Ilieva from the Directorate “Control of the Rights of the Child” in the Agency.
