A joint meeting of the Crisis Management Council and the Cabinet of Ministers will be held on Tuesday, October 27, at 10 a.m. to decide on possible stricter security measures to curb the spread of Covid-19, the Prime Minister’s Office informed.

It is not known at this time what restrictions the government could decide, however, the Prime Minister’s Office noted that the joint meeting will decide on the government’s overall strategy to curb the spread of Covid-19, including stronger security measures and a significant increase in testing capacity.
“At the moment, we see that the virus is still widespread in Latvia, which requires immediate action now, so that it is not too late to learn from the experience of other countries and the virus does not win. I would urge the government to decide on stricter security measures to curb the spread of Covid-19, “emphasized Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (JV).
At a remote press conference on Monday, where the media was informed about the capacity of Latvian hospitals to receive Covid-19 patients, Ministry of Health (VM) State Secretary Daina Mūrmane-Umbraško emphasized that no new additional restrictions would be proposed by the VM, but the importance of increasing the testing capacity of laboratories was emphasized.
The Prime Minister noted that the joint meeting is planned to examine and discuss in detail the common government strategy to limit the spread of Covid-19 in order to make it understandable to every member of the society. The Prime Minister will also call for a decision on the necessary actions to significantly increase the scope of testing.
Also on Tuesday, in the Social and Labor Affairs Committee of the Saeima, the deputies will discuss the current situation with the spread of Covid-19, listening to the views of experts from the Ministry of Welfare, Ministry of Welfare,
It has already been reported that a number of restrictions are currently in place to stop the spread of Covid-19, such as the mandatory wearing of face masks in public places, as well as restrictions on the number of gatherings. You can read details about the restrictions in force here.
It is also reported that from Monday, October 26, the state-paid Covid-19 test may performed only with a doctor’s referral.
It has already been reported that the SPKC data on the previous day published on Monday indicated that 2237 cases of Covid-19 were recorded in 79 new cases, as well as four deaths.
Two of the deaths were in the age group of 55 to 60 years, and two more were in the age group of 80 to 95 years.
The proportion of positive cases against the tested ones was 3.5%.
In Latvia, a total of 4757 persons became ill and 1357 recovered.
In total, 60 Covid-19 infected people have died in Latvia so far.
23 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized on Sunday, according to the National Health Service (NVD) information.
A total of 165 Covid-19 patients are treated in hospitals in Latvia, 158 patients in hospitals are treated with a moderate course of the disease, and seven – with a severe course of the disease.
A total of 325 patients were discharged from hospitals.
