New restaurants and shops coming to Flesland Airport in Bergen, including BIT and Fly Chicken.

DINSIDE (BERGEN/OSLO): Gone is Bølgen & Moi Food Garage, gone are Fiskeriet, Espresso House and Northland. Now, among others, BIT, Fly Chicken, and the currently unknown Rabagast will serve hungry passengers at Flesland Airport in Bergen.

When new Flesland opened in autumn 2017, travelers could finally eat something other than kiosk food, bake-up pizza and baguettes. Now, some five and a half years later, there are new things brewing at the airport, and there will be more.

– We have five-year contracts in Avinor at our airports, Aina Tysse, head of business development in Avinor, tells DinSide.

The new five-year period started on 1 January, and several of the new places are well under way.

Travelers from Flesland can, for example, already shop from Elkjøp or order food from BIT or Fly Chicken. Værbitt, which will take over the premises from Fiskeriet, has got something in place, but both the menu, interior and seating are currently somewhat amputated. The same applies to Rabbagast, which will serve food from all over the world, but currently does not offer an awful lot more than hamburgers.

– Here we are currently operating under “no name”, and the rebuilding has not started yet. Rabbagast will not open until May, then with a completely new menu and a completely new interior.

Tysse says that they have opened one new restaurant at a time, so that they would not all be closed at the same time.

– We are well underway, out of 26 different areas, we will soon be finished with 20 of them. We hope to open the last ones during April, maybe a little into May.

This is how the offer will be

It is Select Service Partner (SSP) that has won the contract for the kiosk, and for seven out of ten restaurants: Rabbagast (food from all over the world), Værbit (fish and seafood), Yo! Sushi, Pizzabakeren, Upper Crust and Ymse (a bit of everything). In addition, Fly chicken, BIT, and Joe & the Juice are opening.

Narvesen and Deli de Luca are replaced by the kiosk chain Point.

Of the shops, travelers will probably notice the Travel Value, Ark and Æra fashion stores, and in addition there is a new variant with leisure wear, Æra Active.

– We have asked what people have missed when they travel, and Elkjøp has been in demand, among other things, says Tysse.

This will not be a normal Elkjøp, but a smaller store with a small electrical selection of products suitable for people on the go. In addition, there will be a separate souvenir shop in the international terminal.

Must offer normal prices

It has almost become a sport to complain about the price of airport food, but this is quite strictly regulated, says Tysse.

– The shops and catering establishments must state both the range and prices when they come up with an offer. We have guidelines that the prices must be the same as in similar shops and restaurants.

You should therefore be able to expect to pay the same at Pizzabakern, BIT or Elkjøp, among others, as if you ate or shopped there in the city.
