Constantin Film has announced a new film set for the horror universe Resident Evil. According to the film company, this is an origin story, which is inspired by the original Capcom games.
Via their websites tells Constantin that the action takes place “a fateful night in Raccoon City in 1998”. Here we meet a number of famous faces, such as Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Albert Wesker and William Birkin.

It is Johannes Roberts – known for, among other things, 47 Meters Down – who takes on the job as screenwriter and director. In the press release, he says that the goal is to recreate the experience he himself had when he played the first two Resident Evil games.
Constantin – the company that has been behind all of Paul WS Anderson’s Resident Evil films – reports that the time has simply come to return to where it all began.
– After a bunch of games, six movies and hundreds of pages of “fanfiction”, we felt an urge to go back to 1998 to explore the secrets that hide behind the walls of Spencer Mansion, says producer Robert Kulzer.
Resident Evil, which seems to be the film’s official title, has not yet been given a final release date. According to Constantin, the plan is to hold a cinema premiere sometime in 2021.
