It has been almost 50 years since the death of actor Bruce Lee, an icon of martial arts. He died suddenly on July 20, 1973 in Hong Kong. Authorities at the time determined that the cause of his death was cerebral edema.
However, a new research paper suggests Lee’s death was caused by his “kidneys’ inability to excrete excess water.”
The study, conducted by a group of kidney specialists in Spain, is published in the December 2022 issue of the Clinical Kidney Journal.
The authors say Lee, who was 32 at the time of his death, had “multiple risk factors for hyponatremia,” meaning an abnormally low blood sodium concentration, citing the actor’s “chronic fluid intake.” , marijuana use (which increases thirst ) and other factors that may have interfered with his kidney function, such as prescription drugs, alcohol intake and organ injuries, Nova TV reported.
