“New research finds little impact on epidemic from hastily recruited call center contact tracing for COVID-19”

Entire call centers with thousands of hastily recruited people set up the GGDs because of corona, to warn close contacts of positively tested people. But the source and contact investigation has hardly dampened the epidemic, according to new research, according to de Volkskrant.

People who came to the test street did so mainly because of corona-like complaints, or because they had infected friends or relatives. The contact investigation of the GGD added little to this.

CoronaMelder, the app that warned people who had been close to a positively tested person for more than fifteen minutes, also had little effect. Hardly any people came to the GGD test street after a report from the app. Those who did visit, often would have done so without the app, for example because of symptoms. This is evident from the first serious academic evaluation of the program, which cost 23 million euros.
