Himedik.com – Maybe you need to stop worrying about getting infected Covid-19 from money cash. This is stated by new research from Europe that has been published in the journal iScience.

Launching from Medicinenet, European researchers examined various coins and banknotes with different concentrations of SARS-CoV-2, corona virus cause of Covid-19. The stainless steel surface was used as a control.

“Under realistic conditions, SARS-CoV-2 infection from cash is highly unlikely,” said study co-lead Daniel Todt, a postdoctoral researcher in medical and molecular virology at Ruhr University Bochum in Germany.

“It took only three days for the infectious SARS-CoV-2 to completely disappear from the 10 euro note, while it remained in stainless steel after seven days,” he added.

The virus disappeared from the 10-cent, 1-euro and 5-cent coins after six days, two days and one hour, respectively.

“The rapid drop in the 5-cent fraction is due to it being made of copper, where viruses are known to be less stable,” Todt said in a university news release.

The researchers are also developing a new method to study how well the virus is transferred from the surface to the fingertips. They contaminate banknotes, coins and PVC plates like credit cards with the harmless coronavirus and SARS-CoV-2.

Volunteers touch surfaces containing harmless coronavirus and use artificial skin to touch surfaces contaminated with SARS-CoV-2.

The sample is taken from a volunteer’s fingertip or artificial skin and placed into the cell culture.

“We saw as soon as the liquid dries up, there’s practically no transmission of the infectious virus,” Todt said.
