In the future, the native of Siegen will support the seniors in the Evangelical Lutheran church district of Göttingen-Münden.
Hann. Münden/Göttingen – Pastor Thorsten Wasmuth-Hödicke is the new representative for pastoral care for old people’s homes and for older people in the Evangelical Lutheran church district of Göttingen-Münden. He will be inducted into his new office on Sunday, May 14, from 4 p.m. in the Friedenskirche in Göttingen.
“I am pleased that in Thorsten Wasmuth-Hödicke we have a conceptually active pastor who organizes the church as a service for the people in this permanently vulnerable area of our aging society,” says Superintendent Dr. Frank Uhlhorn quoted in a message from the church district.
The importance of this area is shown, among other things, by the well-attended church services.
“Sometimes we have between 30 and 40 residents here, of course always depending on the care situation in the respective facilities,” says Pastor Wasmuth-Hödicke.
“Some services in the churches are not so well attended,” smiles Nikolausberger, who has been in office for almost a year. “The need for pastoral care in old people’s homes will increase in the coming years,” he is certain.
In addition to his work as a pastor in a nursing home, Wasmuth-Hödicke is working on a study for the church district of Göttingen-Münden, which is about taking stock of the pastoral care of the old people’s home in the church district. “The curve of people suffering from dementia will rise in the coming years, every third family will have a person with this disease in their environment. We can do a lot with the music and bring back memories,” says the 54-year-old, who grew up in Uslar. One thing is particularly important to him: “The church must come to the people if they cannot make it to the church themselves.”
Born in Siegen in 1968, Thorsten Wasmuth-Hödicke studied theology in Göttingen, Heidelberg and Berlin. Among other things, he was a school pastor in Hamelin for seven years, a youth pastor and at times chairman of the Association of Protestant Religion Teachers. From 2008 he was pastor in two parishes in Wolfsburg and from 2016 also in the pastoral service of the Diakonisches Werk Wolfsburg before moving to Baden for three years as a pastor.
