New Rector of Pontifical Gregorian University

Pontifical Gregorian University will have a new rector. The pope has nominated Mark Andrew Luis, the Jesuit father, to take office on September 1 this year.

Mark Andrew Louis was born in 1959 in Miami, Florida. In 1980 he joined the Commonwealth of Jesus, ordained a priest on June 8, 1991. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of St. Louis and a bachelor’s degree in theology from Regis College in Toronto, as well as a doctorate in history from the University of Toronto.

From 1996 to 2004, Mark Lewis worked at the Institute for the History of the Commonwealth of Jesus in Rome, and since 1998 has been its director. During this time he began teaching at Pontifical Gregorian University, Faculty of Church History. In 2005, he returned to the United States, where he taught at Spring Hill College. From 2008 to 2014, Jesus was a provincial province of New Orleans in the Commonwealth.

In 2017, Father Louis returned to Gregorian Lecturer at the Faculty of Church History and Heritage. Since 2019, he has been the vice-rector of the university.
