Libreville, Thursday August 3, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – The new line should facilitate the transport of goods in the country.
Gabon’s rail transport will be enriched in the coming years with the announced construction of a new railway line. The Prime Minister, Head of Government indicated that the Head of State, Ali Bongo Ondimba, has given his agreement for its construction. “The South African company is positioning itself as a strategic partner to support Gabon in the development of a new railway line. It will be a vast project which will constitute a niche of direct and indirect jobs and an accelerator of economic growth, while the current demand for rail freight is currently at 26,000 tonnes,” said Alain-Claude Bilie By Nze.
This major project could be implemented by Thelo DB, a joint venture between the African industrial group Thelo, and Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting, the main European rail conglomerate. This new railway will be added to the Transgabonais, the only railway in the country which connects the ore port of Owendo (Libreville) to Franceville (Haut-Ogooué).
