Nothing is ever easy among green people in the Hérault. The municipal Psychodrama in Montpellier clearly did not serve as a lesson. This time it is the lists of candidates for the regional ones that are causing concern.
This Saturday, the activists of Europe Ecology the Greens must endorse the list of candidates in the 13 departments of Occitanie. These lists were compiled by department, from an online vote at the beginning of October.
In the Hérault department, EELV activists had to choose 8 men from 15 names and 8 women from 9 names. Nearly 300 activists from Hérault (272) voted in this way. And surprise, on the list of women, the result brings to mind a new member little known until then, Julia Mignacca. A disavowal for Zina Bourguet, outgoing regional councilor, supported by former MP Jean-Louis Roumégas who is fourth on the list, in an ineligible position. A disavowal also for Jacqueline Markovic, activist of the current Manu Reynaud (municipal councilor of Montpellier) who finishes sixth on the list.
Never mind ! The internal election commission decides to change the rules of the game and put these two women at the top of the list. There is nothing illegal about this process, because it was announced very clearly: the vote was only advisory.
We flout the vote of members to satisfy individual or clan interests “
The first to be outraged is of course the activist who came first in the activists’ vote and relegated to sixth place, Julia Mignacca “I am informed by email that the members’ vote will not be respected. The reasons ? I would have supported a competing list during the municipal campaign in Montpellier. (supporting the We Are List) I took no public position and the party did not suspend or remonstrate about it. (…) Another reason: my militant journey! On what criteria do the members of the commission judge my militant career without even having questioned me? (…) How can the commission accept such a lack of respect for democracy? The commission flouts the vote of members to satisfy individual or clan interests. I ask the committee to submit to the vote of the GA this Saturday the scheduling of the initial vote of the members. “
She could have ensured a little renewal outside the clans
But it all leaves a bitter taste for some activists who speak of “pathetic maneuvers” far from the democracy claimed by the party. “This young woman who came out on top of the votes could embody the new generation, outside the currents of the party, she could have ensured a little renewal “ explains an activist who prefers to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals from his party. Retaliation? That says a lot about the vibe at EELV.
“From the start nothing has been done in the rules of EELV, the cup is full” Coralie Mantion
Coralie Mantion, environmental assistant at the city of Montpellier, head of the municipal list for EELV she also disapproves of the method. “I do not wish to make any comment on what is happening internally in the party” she told us. But in a letter addressed to the militants, she explains clearly “since the beginning of the process, nothing is done in the rules of EELV. To begin with, we appointed our head of the list before the strategic vote. (…) Then, in the Hérault, the voting method chosen, to designate our candidates, was the uninominal vote (…) While the statutes require a proportional vote (…) which allows fair representativeness of all motions. And now the CIRE (internal commission) is unraveling the departmental votes of members, because some people were not satisfied with the results that came out of the polls, even though it was they who set up the procedure (eg blatant example in the ‘Hérault). The cup is full !” And to add “All this accumulation of facts will make me vote against these lists, so that the CIRE reviews its copy. Unless, by Saturday, the internal authorities are questioning themselves”
“It would have been better to organize a proportional vote”
On his side Jean-Louis Roumégas recognizes a little confusion while justifying the choice of the commission “Zina Bourguet had been placed at the top of the list in more than half of the votes of the militants, it was not logical that she is not in an eligible position”. He forgot to mention that in many bulletins, his protege was placed in last position. The vote of the militants being very divided between the pro “Roumagas” and the pro “Reynaud”. He adds thatit would have been better to organize a proportional vote which would not have suffered from any dispute.
Jean-Louis Roumégas specifies that this Saturday, activists will still be able to change the order of candidates on the proposed list. Except that this time, it is all the activists of Occitanie who will be brought to vote and that there is very little chance that those of the Tarn or the Pyrénées-Orientales disapprove of the list proposed in the Hérault, not knowing neither the candidates, nor the “little arrangements between friends” operated by some.
Coralie Mantion also specifies that technically it will be very complicated to change the order of the candidates.
“Wanting power is good but not with such a quarrel of egos”
This new psychodrama among the ecologists of the Hérault begins to seriously demotivate some activists long-standing. “Wanting power is good because it is what makes it possible to change things, but this cannot go through personal quarrels which only tarnish once again the credibility of our party”
