New political scene after the ouster of SYRIZA – How the relations are formed in the Parliament –

The independence of Iota Poulos and Theodora Tzakris from the KO of SYRIZA results for the first time in the post-revolutionary history of the party that emerged as the official opposition losing its specific role through successive independences in the period between the last national elections. Now, a new political scenario is taking shape, with Nikos Androulakis assuming the role of leader of the official opposition.

At the time of writing these lines, the associates of Nikos Pappas are being asked to pack their things from the office that has always belonged to the official opposition leader and is located on the ground floor of the Parliament. In addition, Nikos Androulakis will take the floor immediately after the Prime Minister in the Plenary meetings, while he will also increase the number of his partners.

In addition, PASOK will gain three (instead of two) parliamentary representatives, an additional member in the Conference of Presidents, the position of vice-chairman in the Committee on Institutions and Transparency, as well as one of the two positions filled by MPs in the Committee of the Parties.

The paradox is that the political promotion of the previously third party takes place without PASOK integrating into its Parliamentary Group someone from the pool of independent MPs, which after the last independences amount to 21. In fact, at the beginning of April it was deleted from the ” green” KO Burhat Baran due to his involvement in a serious case involving justice.

In any case, the number of independent MPs is largely reminiscent of the turbulent situation and the fluid balances that prevailed in the Parliament on memoranda, with the qualitative difference being that then the independences came from the ruling parties.

More departures are in the works

With SYRIZA ranking – based on parliamentary strength – in third place, the question is whether more departures will occur in the near future. According to the information, the independences of G. Poulos and Th. Tzakri will not be the last, as it seems that (at least) Evangelos Apostolakis and Yiannis Sarakiotis will follow the same path. In this context, the deputy of Argolis, Giorgos Gavrilos, who currently remains in Koumoundourou without parliamentary duties, could also join under conditions.

Will a new KO be formed?

Although it does not seem immediately feasible, the conditions are beginning to be created for the establishment of a KO that will be related to the new party of Stefanos Kasselakis. In total, the MPs who left Koumundourou after the eventful congress amount to six, while if the three aforementioned MPs who remained in the SYRIZA KO are added, then they reach nine.

In this case, it is considered certain that there will be a rapprochement with the MPs, Michalis Khourdakis and Areti Papaioannou, who were elected with the Freedom Movement and a few months later became independent. It is recalled that in order to form a KO from the independents, at least ten MPs are required.
