New Pole Vault World Record! Duplantis Has Done It Again

Armand Duplantis set a world record in the pole vault with a result of 6.25 m and won the gold medal in the Paris Games. The Swede improved his result from April 20 and the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China, by a centimeter.

In the Olympic competition, the 24-year-old Swede’s dominance was unquestionable. He had no knockdowns until he scored a 6.10, after which he was certain of the gold medal. Instead, he decided to attack his own world record.
By then, the entire attention of the Stade de France crowd was focused on him, as the other competition had come to an end. The fans, including King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, clapped steadily to encourage him. His first two attempts were unsuccessful, but on his third attempt he confidently cleared the crossbar and immediately ran towards the stands, where his partner Desire Inglander was waiting.
He improved the world record for the ninth time in his career, but he had never done it before at the Olympics, the biggest sports stage. His series began on February 8, 2020 in… Toruń, during the Copernicus Cup indoor meeting, when he jumped 6.17.
“Mondo” also won Olympic gold in Tokyo three years ago. He is also a two-time world champion and a three-time European champion in the open stadium. Since the European Championships in Berlin in 2018, he has only lost at the most important events in the world championships in Doha (2019), when Sam Kendricks turned out to be better.
The American won the silver medal in Paris with a result of -5.95, and the third place was taken by the Greek Emmanouil Karalis, training under the supervision of Marcin Szczepański in a group with Piotr Lisek among others – 5.90.
