The first PlayStation presentation for this year was quieter in terms of unexpected announcements. However, you definitely don’t want to miss titles like Death Stranding 2 or the new Silent Hill.
Stellar Blade
One of the great PlayStation exclusives for this year is the action hacker Stellar Blade, which was thoroughly demonstrated in a longer demo. In it, we learned a little about the basic mechanics of the game and the functioning of this world. Humans have been forced to leave Earth and are currently residing on a remote colony as the planet has been taken over by monsters called Naytiba. We will go to the dangerous wastelands in the role of Eve, who has the task of finding the source of this disaster.
Despite the fact that Earth is a dangerous place, many people still survive on it. You will come across entire colonies while searching for the cause. But not everyone will welcome you with open arms. For some, Eve is an angel who has come to save them. On the other hand, there are those who refuse to talk to you and blame you for their situation.
But we will always have Adam and Lily, the crew members, who will help you mainly with improving your equipment and exploring the world. So far, Stellar Blade looks very similar to the games in the Nier series with even more acrobatics. We’ll find out how this event fits into our hands on April 26, when the game comes out on PS5.
Silent Hill: The Short Message
The preview of this first-person horror was a pleasant surprise considering that we haven’t heard the name since 2022. But fans must have been even more excited by the end of the trailer itself, when it was revealed that The Short Message will be free to play and anyone can play it today. That is, if he has a fifth PlayStation.
This short experience began as an experiment. This is also one of the reasons why Konami is releasing it for free. They want as many players as possible to try it, who can then give them valuable feedback.
Since they wanted to incorporate contemporary issues into the Silent Hill series, the main protagonist’s cell phone plays an important role in the story. Together with her, we will look into her spiral of anxiety.
Silent Hill 2
In addition to The Short Message, there was also a demo from playing the complete remake of the second part of the Silent Hill series, which has been waiting for some Friday. But the wait will continue, because at the end of the trailer we didn’t even see the planned release year. But we won’t be angry at all if the authors take their time with it. We are not exactly enthusiastic about the initial sample.
We don’t want to dismiss the remake right from the start, but one look at the animations of the main character’s movements and it is quite clear that we are not approaching the quality of such remakes as Resident Evil 2 or 4. It would be a real shame if this legend didn’t get the care it deserved. That’s why we don’t even mind that we still don’t know the release date. It’s still true that it’s better to delay the game and release it in great shape than to rush it and release a half-finished product among players.
Judas
Judas should definitely not escape your attention. Last year it was shown in the first polished trailer, today we saw the first few samples directly from gameplay. It will certainly interest you just because it is the work of the creators of the excellent Bioshock series. But the story of Judas will work a little differently than in their previous work.
Instead of everything being linear, the story will branch out through the player’s decisions. So it is not predetermined who is and is not your ally. It all takes place in the town of Mayflower, whose citizens are trained to spy on each other and punish each other for even the slightest misstep.
It is therefore necessary not to stand out from the line. If you act out of the ordinary, it might not go down well with the robot leaders who have the entire government, business, arts… in short, every part of the local society under their thumb. Unfortunately, we still don’t know when we will be able to take a peek here.
Metro Awakening VR
Speculations were not wrong in this case, during this year we will really get a game from the Metro series intended for virtual reality. It’s a completely new story that hasn’t appeared in previous game adaptations. It takes place even before the events of Metro 2033. Specifically, we look to 2028.
You don’t have to worry that the so far untold chapter wouldn’t fit in with the rest of the series. It was written by Gluchovsky himself, the author of the original. In the main role is the doctor Serdar looking for his wife in the dark tunnels of the Moscow metro.
The developers want to stick to the gameplay style we know from the classic Metro games. You can already see this from the demo, when it will be more about a slower progress. But nothing will probably prevent us from going about it a little more actively. At the same time, you can’t do without filters for the gas mask, and there certainly won’t be a lot of cartridges either.
Rise of the Ronin
Another game that will (at least for now) only see PlayStation 5 on March 22nd is Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin. In it, we will play as a ronin during the time when the era of the samurai is almost at its end and Japan is starting to open up more to the outside world. But with that comes considerable problems, in which our lone warrior gets involved.
Unlike the previous games of this studio, the movement is much freer this time. This is thanks to the tow hook and its practical glider. In any case, he will be able to use the hook during fights, when he will pull the enemy to him or, on the contrary, pull him to his place.
In the event, we will also use traditional Japanese cold weapons and various rifles, of which there should be a lot this time. The main character gets together with a merchant who can perhaps even get a cannon. But we can certainly get by with a katana, because one-on-one fights look really nice in motion.
Until Dawn
Sony failed to keep this secret. We learned about the new version of the horror film Until Dawn already last week from unofficial sources. At least now we have more details. It will be a complete remake in Unreal Engine 5, which will be released on PS5 and PC later this year. However, the Supermassive Games studio is not working on it. The team at Ballistic Moon took on the remake.
The story and its branches are preserved according to the original, but they did not allow themselves to expand a few moments. You will come across other news as well. This is helped by replacing static cameras with a classic third-person camera. This will allow you to explore the scenes more and you can get to new interactions or collectibles. As well as the graphics, the sounds have also been completely redone, including the soundtrack composed by Mark Korven.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
The fact that the continuation of Death Stranding is expected until 2025 did not please us, but we certainly do not disdain the almost ten-minute trailer. As is usual with Hideo Kojima, it’s a real rollercoaster ride of weirdness, surprises and moments that don’t really make sense, but win you over so much that you want to know more about them as soon as possible.
The context of the trailer makes it clear that Sam is venturing beyond the United States. He already connected them in the first part, now it is necessary to continue the process in other parts of the world. You can hear Mexico, but it’s hard to say where Kojima Productions will take us. In addition to Norman Reedus, who once again plays the main role, you can also see Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna and George Miller in the game for the first time. Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker will return to their roles again this time.
The release is still a long way off, but we have to admit that Death Stranding 2 looks really cool. Again, it runs on the Decima engine, created by the Guerrilla Games studio. There’s also the subtitle thing. What does On the Beach mean? Hard to say. However, as we know Kodžima, he will definitely not be a sunbather.
