Ultimately, every console is the victim of hacks and exploits in order to run homebrew apps (and therefore also full games). While Sony was known for tight security during the days of the PlayStation 3, its successor – the PlayStation 4 – was quicker to act, though the Japanese manufacturer has always been quick to close gaps with a new patch.
However, the hackers don’t know when to stop, because a trio of hackers split on Twitter a new exploit they got working on firmware 9.00 and earlier. The exploit makes it possible to boot a custom firmware and so homebrew apps will not be long in coming.
The news doesn’t stop there though, because one of the hackers – @Znullptr – indicates that the PlayStation 5 could potentially be exploited in the same way. However, they cannot verify this as the lead developer does not have access to Sony’s new console at this time.

Alright, was just a joke about caturday.
The exploit is legit, and as a bonus:
The kernel exploit affects Playstation5 as well!
(no, ps5 is not ready or being released, the lead developer does not currently have a ps5 console)– From (@Znullptr) December 13, 2021
