The time has matured so much that the Czech market is once again becoming very lucrative for potential new players. And they are starting to take advantage of it. For example, there is speculation that the Polish Biedronka could enter the Czech Republic, as it has already opened its first store in Slovakia.

However, other entities have already carried out their expansion. We are primarily talking about the brand new Bonveno shopping chain, which should once again bring back the concept of so-called neighborhood shopping to this country. As the name suggests, these will be rather smaller stores, but they will be located in well-chosen locations and will target the local community.

Simply put, you will use these stores because you will have them literally around the corner from your home, but also work, school or a public transport stop. At the same time, Bonveno will not be just another Žabka or Tesco Express, as this concept would suggest. That probably wouldn’t be enough to succeed.

He intends to reach out to Czech customers with great emphasis on top customer experience. First of all, these will be very pleasant shops, whether in terms of design, service or product range. In addition to regular food, where you will find a fairly decent selection of what you normally need every day, you will be able to buy, for example, a quick lunch or a snack here, thanks to the warm snack counter.

People are already coming back

The first feedback from our customers shows that they like our stores and are starting to come back regularly. On the way to work, they get a quality breakfast, and in the afternoon and evening they simply fill their fridges with us,” said General Manager Bonvena. Several stores already operate in the Czech Republic, and this year their number should rise to 25 locations.

But it is far from over, on the contrary. It’s supposed to be just the beginning of a big expansion. You can believe it, because Makro is behind this chain of stores. It will expand its scope in this way. Until now, it has operated practically only as a wholesaler, but now it will directly serve end customers in smaller stores as well.
