Two pilot projects for drivers are starting this week in Dresden. They should help to optimize the flow of traffic and thus reduce pollutant emissions.
Two dynamic speed indicators will be put into operation on the Bergstrasse on Thursday. The boards then show speed recommendations for drivers so that they can drive through at the next traffic light when they are green. This is made clear by a green wave symbol. If a stop cannot be avoided, no guide value is displayed. A traffic symbol at the end of the test route indicates the end of the recommended speed limit.
There is one display on the median after Fritz-Foerster-Platz, another after the Bergstraße / Mommsenstraße intersection. The speed recommendation applies to the section from Fritz-Foerster-Platz to Nöthnitzer Straße. The speed recommendations are intended to avoid stopping and reduce pollutant emissions from the cars. The whole thing is made possible by a green time forecast for the next traffic light system, the review of which is part of the pilot project.
The second pilot project starts in Klotzsche. A new display will be installed at the traffic lights at Radeburger Strasse / Meinholdstrasse in the direction of the city center. It will display a countdown showing the time remaining before it turns green.
Both pilot projects are part of the “Digitization of Municipal Transport Systems” funding project of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. The systems on Bergstrasse cost around 50,000 euros. The advertisement in Klotzsche is around 10,000 euros. Both projects are funded 50 percent from federal funds.
