New performances are expected at Daile Theater in January – ‘Spring’ and ‘Performance in Butter’

In January, the Daile Theater is expected to premiere two international projects – the production of the work “Spring” by the Estonian literary classic Oscar Luts and the English comedy “A Show That Meets in Butter”.

According to Agnese Vārpiņa, a representative of the theater, “Delfi” is expected to premiere on January 12 for the production “Pavasaris”, composed by one of the most famous Estonian directors, classic and master of poetic theater Prīts Pedajas.

“Spring” is a heartfelt, humorous and touching story about friendship and the life of a rural youth school during the writer’s Lutsa school years in the village church school, during the Estonian national awakening – at the beginning of the 20th century, reports Vārpiņa.

For the first time in Latvia, the drama of the novel “Spring” was staged by Estonian director Miks Mikivers in 1980 at the Youth Theater. The show was shown more than 350 times.

Oscar Luts’ novel “Spring” is recognized as the second most important literary work in Estonia, but its dramatization is the most staged literary work of all time in the theaters of our northern neighbors.

Participating in the show: Lauris Subatnieks, Lauris Dzelzitis, Gints Gravel, Dainis Gaidelis, Artis Robežnieks, Kristīne Nevarauska, Aldis Siliņš, Niklāvs Kurpnieks, Mārtiņš Upenieks, Gints Andžāns, Juris Strenga, Indra Briķe, Juris Bartkevičs, Lidija Pupure, Anete Krasovska, Ērika Eglija-Grāvele, Milēna Miškēviča, Katrlis Senka.

Scenography for the show was created by Mārtiņš Vilkārsis, costumes by Ilze Vītoliņa, choreographer by Inga Seņkāne, lighting artist by Marguss Vaigurs.

On the other hand, on January 26, the premiere of the next international project in the English comedy “A Show That Makes Butter” is expected at the Daile Theater. The production is a replica of the original play “The Play That Goes Wrong” by Mischief Theater in London, co-directed by Amy Marchant, director of Mischief Theater.

This play by Henry Louis, Jonathan Seer and Henry Shield won the prestigious Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Comedy of the Year in 2015. “The Play That Goes Wrong” has been shown in more than 30 countries around the world, including on Broadway. According to Vārpiņa, this will be a great opportunity to see one of the most sought-after comedies in London at the moment.

The play tells the story of a university drama and the premiere of their production “Murder at Haversham Manor”, during which everything goes wrong – the props do not stick to the walls, the actors forget the text, even the stage floor invades. Despite the circumstances of force majeure, the enthusiasts of the drama group are determined to play the show to the end.

The creative team of the original production: authors – Henry Lewis, Jonathan Seier, Henry Shield, scenography – Nigel Hooke, lighting artist – Rick Mountainous, costume designer – Roberto Suroche, choreography – Dave Hurne, music author – Rob Falk Kenny Wax and “Stage Presence” premiered the Mischief Theater’s The Play That Goes Wrong in West End, London.
