After Microsoft unveiled a new Perfect Dark game last winter, it has been quiet. Now we have learned a little more about the developers behind it, and it has all taken a slightly surprising turn.
Crystal Dynamics – best known for the newer Tomb Raider games, and Marvel’s Avengers – will be co-developers of the game.

The main developer studio is still Microsoft’s in-house studio The Initiative, but gets help from the Square Enix-owned studio.
– We are entering into a partnership with Crystal Dynamics, a world-class development team behind figure-driven games such as Tomb Raider, to release this first-person spy thriller to a new generation of players, it says in the announcement on Twitter.
Crystal Dynamics and The Initiative share some former employees, which may well be part of the explanation for the collaboration here. The Initiative was founded by Darrel Gallagher, who was previously head of Crystal Dynamics. Director Daniel Neuburger – who was responsible for the revitalization of Tomb Raider in 2013 has also jumped from Crystal Dynamics to The Initiative a while ago.
No date or platforms have been mentioned for Perfect Dark so far, but we can assume that the game will only be released for Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and Windows.
