The government of PSOE – United We Can coalition agreed, in the margin of The general budgets of the state by 2023, a new paternity leave. This change will be included in the future family law, led by the Minister of Social Rights, Ion Herband will be approved urgently by the Council of Ministers by the end of this October.
If approved, working parents will be able to take leave from next year 16 week window which is presently once it has been given birth. From 2023 they will be able to benefit from a eight weeks’ leave until the child turns 8, even if they will not be paid.
