New Parental Controls and Game Hiding in Steam: What You Need to Know

Steam is reportedly adding some new features. Valve’s digital store may soon make it possible to hide certain games from the library, set purchase restrictions on a child’s account and limit the child’s total playing time.

As for the first change, it was spotted on Twitter/X by @thexpaw, who noticed a new feature that allows users to mark a game as private. This is going to be useful for anyone with… mildly edgy taste, or those who daily browse Steam’s NSFW catalog but don’t want their friends to know they’re playing a visual novel gone wild.

The second feature seems to be much more useful for a wider group of people, as it allows parents to control how their children play games and how much they spend. Again, SteamDB creator Pavil Djundik found out this information beforehand, stating that “Steam is working on new parental controls with the addition of family groups.”

What do you think of these changes to Steam?
