New pact for Pierre-Olivier Joseph

Defender Pierre-Olivier Joseph signed a new two-year contract worth $825,000 a year with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

For the first time in his career, the Quebecer obtained a single-sided agreement in the National Hockey League (NHL).

In 2021-2022, Joseph played four games with the “Pens” and did not collect a point. He had played 16 games in the NHL the previous season.

The Laval native was drafted in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2017 auction by the Arizona Coyotes.

However, he never played professionally in this organization, since the “Yotes” traded him to the Pittsburgh club in the transaction involving Phil Kessel in June 2019.

PK’s brother stays in Buffalo

In addition, Malcolm Subban, PK’s brother, will remain one more season in the organization of the Buffalo Sabers, he who signed a contract extension.

It’s a two-way deal for the goaltender, the Sabers have confirmed. If he plays in the National League, Subban will pocket $850,000. The financial details of his agreement, if he plays in the American League, had still not been revealed at the time of this writing.

The former first-round pick (24th overall) of the Boston Bruins in 2012 has never been able to meet expectations, he who has only 86 games of experience in the Bettman circuit. In 2021-2022, he played only nine games in total, four with the Sabres, amassing no victory in the process, and five with the Rockford IceHogs, in the American League. He is still recovering from an upper body injury.

His most significant moment of the last campaign was when he performed the American national anthem during the Sabres’ last home game.

Since the start of his career, Subban has gone 36-33-9 with a 3.10 goals-against average and .898 save percentage.

Alex Edler lives in Los Angeles

In Los Angeles, the Kings have given defenseman Alex Edler a one-year contract extension.

The 36-year-old veteran could have become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday. Instead, he signed a deal worth $750,000. He could get his hands on a $750,000 bonus depending on how many games he plays in 2022-23.

Last year, Edler played his first season with the Kings, having been hired through the free agent market. He had previously spent 15 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks organization.

On his first lap with the California squad, the Swede hit the target three times and provided 16 assists for 19 points in 41 games.

A special program on the opening of the free agent market will be presented Wednesday at 11 a.m. on TVA Sports, TVA Sports direct and at TVASports.ca.
