Next week, the new films will stand out on Netflix: “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” is a masterpiece that was shown in cinemas in 2018 – and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” is the last film with the late Chadwick Boseman.
Before Netflix soon publishes the monthly overview for the restarts in January 2021, there are now what we think are the most interesting or recommendable restarts of the coming week. So we have screened for you again.
However, the following applies: It can always be that Netflix still includes titles in its program that no one has previously had on their screen. Therefore, it is worthwhile to check the news on our site regularly.
Here are the Netflix highlights of the week, December 14-20, 2020:
Monday: Death at the ballet school
The thriller series “Your Last Solo” begins with the tragic death of one of the best dancers in Chicago’s most famous ballet school. The competition among the students is brutal …
Dienstag: “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” & “Shazam!”
The two-time Oscar-winning “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” is a powerful, deeply moving drama because director and writer Martin McDonagh tells about people with mistakes and not about monsters. Mildred (Frances McDormand) takes on the local police who have so far failed to solve the murder of her daughter.
The DC comic adaptation “Shazam!” Is a lot easier, but still thrilling, in which a teenager becomes an adult superhero through magic. It turns out that since DC stopped trying to link the hero films with one another, they have been more fun (see also “Aquaman”, which is also on Netflix).
Wednesday: True crime series about women murderers
In the completed documentary series “The Yorkshire Ripper”, a series of murders is dealt with, which occurred between 1975 and 1980 in the north of England. 13 women died, but the police just couldn’t catch the perpetrator.
“The Spitzenkandidat”: Hugh Jackman plays the US politician Gary Hart, who ran in 1988 to be put up by the Democrats as a candidate for the presidency. But a sex affair that the media rushes on gets in the way.
3.5-star review of “The Spitzenkandidat”
Friday: The final Chadwick Boseman film
Chadwick Boseman (“Black Panther”) died of colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43. Actors who died far too early cannot choose their last films – but Boseman is one of those who can say goodbye with a good film. In “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” he plays an aspiring jazz trumpeter and is a favorite for the Oscar for Best Actor.
In the Korean horror series “Sweet Home”, the lonely student Hyunsoo (Song Kang) lost his family in an accident. He moves into an apartment complex where something is hugely wrong …
