New on Netflix: “Cobra Kai” (Netflix): Handshake instead of the edge of a hand – cinema

The series continuation of the 80s cult hit movie “Karate Kid” is entering its third round. And better than ever!

Story: Johnny’s (William Zabka, 55) karate protégé Miguel (Xolo Maridueña, 19) is in a coma while his son Robby (Tanner Buchanan, 22) is on the run. The former karate kid Daniel (Ralph Macchio, 59) comes himself and offers his help. Can lifelong rivals really become partners, maybe even friends? A delightfully tense and occasionally wonderfully amusing twist …

The new episodes expand the “Cobra Kai” universe in a variety of ways. With Johnny’s old trainer, the nasty Kreese (Martin Kove, 74), a formidable villain from the old movies returns. His (successful!) Attempt to take over the martial arts school creates some conflicts. We are also traveling with Daniel to Okinawa, the Japanese home of his late teacher, Mr. Miyagi. But nostalgic feelings are not the only reason for this trip.

Netflix has already commissioned a next, fourth season. In addition, at least two more and an offshoot series are being planned. Lots of reasons to (pre-) joy for fans of this all-round successful series, which is great fun for both old and new fans.

Conclusion: The perfectly balanced mixture of slapstick, character drama and brawling develops unimagined depth. Indeed, things can go on for a few more years.

(10 x 28 to 41 minutes / from 12 years)
