In “In Time” humanity has reached the point where it can stop the aging process. In order to avoid overpopulation, time has been declared an object for sale. Only those who have enough money in their bank account to buy time can be immortal. Everyone else has to constantly fear for their lives.
The simple worker Will Salas (Justin Timberlake), whose mother has just been taken, is falsely accused of murdering a rich man. He is forced to flee with the banker’s daughter Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried) as a hostage. In the fight against the system and time, the two grow ever closer and decide to rob the banks of Sylvia’s time lender father (Vincent Kartheiser). The timekeeper Raymond Leon (Cillian Murphy) is always on the duo’s heels.

From the maker of one of the best sci-fi films of all time
“In Time” was directed and written by Andrew Niccol. He not only wrote the screenplay for the 90s masterpiece “The Truman Show” with Jim Carrey and was nominated for an Oscar for it. With “Gattaca”, the New Zealander also directed one of the best science fiction films ever. This does not apply to “In Time”, by the way. But even if the film is not a milestone, we can still highly recommend it to you.
The official FILMSTARTS review gave it a good 3.5 out of 5 stars. Editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen’s conclusion is as follows: “It’s a lot of fun to watch director Andrew Niccol juggle all of his many ideas around the theme of ‘time as currency.’ It’s understandable that there’s no real chemistry between Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried on screen.”
