On Prime Video, “Vikings” star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has a fatal duel with Emile Hirsch (“Into The Wild”) as the mafia boss. The response from critics to “American Night” is catastrophic, but it is still well received by the audience.
With “American Night”, Amazon Prime Video has a brand new gangster thriller in its program today. It is about the art dealer John Kaplan (“Vikings” star Jonathan Rhys Meyers), who owns the Andy Warhol painting Pink Marilyn is and therefore in the sights of the Mafia boss Michael Rubino (Emile Hirsch), who has it in mind. A deadly argument breaks out between the two of them. Because John does not want to leave the greasy crook with this work, which is so important for the art world, without a fight.
In addition to Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Emile Hirsch, Paz Vega (“Rambo: Last Blood”), Jeremy Piven (“Entourage”) and Michael Madsen (“Kill Bill”) are also in “American Night”.

Not a single one of the nine reviews evaluated there is positive, but 96 percent of the more than 100 audience reviews are positive (as of December 31, 2021, 11:37 a.m.). Although this is a relatively small sample, which is therefore only of limited significance, the discrepancy between the two values is definitely noteworthy.
