New officer strengthens Red Cross Rohrbach

In the Rohrbach district rescue command, he is already an integral part of operational management. Normally, the officer course lasts about two years. Due to the pandemic, however, there were numerous postponements. “Actually, I first wanted to do the officers’ course and then build a house. But we’ve already moved in,” says Leitner, who began his Red Cross career in Hofkirchen as a Neustifter, but now lives in Kleinzell and works in Neufelden.

He has been wearing the right jacket for 16 years, and his wife Elisabeth also works in the rescue service. Why get involved in an apprenticeship that includes twenty-two mostly two- or three-day modules – especially at the weekends? “The view beyond the rescue service, the tactical approach, for example in major accidents or disaster operations, that was what appealed to me,” replies the young officer. In addition, the training serves to develop personality and can also be used in civilian work.

Summer course is coming up

Anyone interested in working with the Red Cross can apply at www.passende-jacke.at inform. For those who make quick decisions in the rescue service, there will be a summer course from June 27th or the part-time paramedic training from September. Info: www.roteskreuz.at
