The recording of the new Norwegian the big movie «Sulis» is underwaystarring Simon Jönsson Berger, Otto Fahlgren and Alexandra Gjerpen in the lead roles.

The film, which is directed by Nils Gaup, is about the history of the mining town of Sulitjelma, where the workers struggle under difficult conditions and rebel against the mining company.

The historical film is now receiving international attention, among other things American magazine Variety.

– The course of events is magnificent

The Swedish actor Simon J. Berger says that he thinks it’s fun that the film gets international attention.

– It’s fun, of course, says Berger to Good evening Norway about the Variety article.

Berger is well known from his role as “Adam Veile” in the NRK drama series “Exit”. This time he will be seen in the role of the antagonist in the historical film.

– The course of events and the visuals are magnificent. It will be very nice pictures, because it is out in extremely dramatic environments. Both mountains and mines, he says.

The actor elaborates that they have filmed in several different places, including deep inside the mines. He describes it as a unique feeling.

– It is a special atmosphere when you are inside a mountain. It’s such a strong environment.

Twelve years of planning

The idea for “Sulis” was created by filmmaker and journalist Tomas Evjen, and has been planned for over twelve years before filming could begin. Since Evjen passed away in 2012, the producer has Tom Vidar Karlsen helped to realize the idea.

Director Nils Gaup says that it is good to be working on the recording.

– It is a fantastic feeling to finally be allowed to visualize it. For me, history has a great significance. My father worked in a mine, and I as a boy was involved. This is something I know something about and care about, Gaup tells Good evening Norway.

– What does it mean to you that this story is told?

– There are very many people in power in the world who make decisions on behalf of ordinary people, which have major consequences for us and we have very little to say. The film is very much about that: that you can actually say that you want to have a say in the team, says the director.

He then says that the recording has been tough so far.

– It has been a war from the start, because we work up north in a mine and out in nature. So it has been cold and a terrible toil. It has become a reality for the entire crew and actors, says the director.
