It seems to be official soon: a new upgraded version of the Nintendo Switch may premiere later this year.
According to Bloomberg, production of the new console will begin as soon as July. Nintendo may present it in conjunction with the E3 trade show in mid-June.
Switch Pro – or what it will now be called – is said to have a 7-inch 720p screen. Original-Switch has 6.2 inches and is built with LCD.
Perhaps the biggest news, however, is that when you play in docked mode – that is, with the TV as a screen – it will render games in 4k resolution. Probably with the help of a deep learning technology the graphics processor company Nvidia calls DLSS (deep learning super sampling).
Nintendo will according to the Bloomberg article Do not be particularly worried about the serious shortage of chips at the moment: the components to be used for the new variant of the Nintendo Switch are not as popular on the market as, for example, those under the shell of the Xbos Series X and Playstation 5.
The Nintendo Switch currently costs around SEK 3,700, but it is likely that a Switch Pro will have a higher price. Nintendo Switch Lite will, if the information is correct, continue to be sold along with the new device. Switch Lite does not have detachable controls and cannot be connected to a TV screen.
Nintendo Switch was originally released in 2017 and has become a huge success with over 85 million units sold.
