Working parents have big concerns about who will take care of their young children after school is over.
‘Neulbom School’, which is responsible for school care before and after classes, will be implemented for all first grade elementary school students starting from the second semester of this year.
It was then decided to expand the target audience to all grades starting next year.
First, reporter Yoo Seo-young reports on the Ministry of Education’s announcement.

Even though it is vacation season, students carry their bags and enter school.

″Because I can go to work without being noticed. I feel sorry for parents who keep running the academy in circles, but they don’t have to do that… ″
So far, the utilization rates of the care methods divided into ‘after school classes’ and ‘care classes’ have remained at around 50% and 11%, respectively.
Not only was there a lot of free time, but learning demands could not be properly met.
The government announced that it would completely replace this with Neulbom School, which operates before and after regular classes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
This year, in the first semester, it will be expanded to approximately 2,000 elementary schools and will be implemented in all schools in the second semester.
First of all, the target audience is first grade elementary school students.

″We will provide two hours of high-quality, customized programming free of charge every day to all eligible first-grade elementary school students.″
Starting in 2026, the plan is to provide care to any elementary school student of any desired grade at Neulbom School.
In addition to the existing regular after-school programs, Neulbom School also includes activities that have not previously been considered ‘education’ such as rest and meals.
Parents are looking forward to measures that will ease the burden of care and childcare.

″There is no more parental leave to take, and there is no one to look after the child until it ends at 1 o’clock. Eventually, one of the caregivers resigns. There are many cases where the target is a woman.”
There are about 347,000 first-year elementary school students nationwide waiting to enroll this year.
The government predicts that more than 80% of them will apply for Neulbom School.
