New NBA tournament details
Get out of the USA! Schroeder changes
The new tournament in the middle of the season has been decided, now the NBA is announcing new details about the controversial format.
As part of the league meeting, the NBA has the format for the new in-season tournament announced.
So there will be six groups of five teams each, three per Conference. In a free-for-all mode, the teams play four games each on Tuesdays and Fridays in November.
In addition to the group winners, the best runners-up in each conference also advance to the quarter-finals of the new “NBA Cup”.

“The concept itself is nothing new in sport,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, “for those who follow international football, it’s a tradition. So we thought, what a perfect opportunity for a league with global reach like the NBA.”
The league also drew lots for the groups for the tournament, which will be held in November and December. The placements of the past season were used as a basis for this.

NBA promises high price
The league also announced a grand prize for winning the new format.
The winning team gets $500,000 as a reward, while the second-placed team still gets $200,000.
Even more games – criticism of the new tournament
The new tournament provokes a lot of criticism from fans and experts in advance.
The already bloated schedule of 82 regular-season games per team will be even more lavish with the in-season tournament.
“An unnecessary NBA tournament in the middle of the most important part of the NFL and college football season,” commented Twitter user Bryce Hayes.
“This NBA tournament is so outrageous and stupid,” Mason Voth said.
And Glenn Clark tweeted: “The funniest thing about it is they make exactly the same stupid mistake they make wrestling with the tournaments: It means nothing at all. They could AT LEAST win a playoff berth. Or home advantage in the 1st round. At least then this stupid, meaningless tournament would have some value.”
