The National Security Council will review a number of relaxation of the corona rules on Wednesday from 8 am. The culture and events sector, in particular, can expect news.

The National Security Council already released the reins to a large extent on July 1. Since then, most of the restrictions that have survived, except for nightlife and mass events. Swimming pools, wellness centers, cinemas, banquet halls and casinos have reopened, albeit under certain conditions. The cultural activities with the public have also been allowed again since this month.

Events

However, strict restrictions apply to the maximum number of admitted visitors everywhere. In the open air, there are 400, within 200. From August 1, that could be adjusted to 800 and 400 respectively, Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès already said at the previous meeting, if the statistics allow it. The Security Council must now consider this, it is confirmed in government circles.

There could also be relaxation for gatherings such as weddings – where now a maximum of 200 people may be present for the ceremony and 50 for the party. Finally, worship services should again have more attendees: if all goes well, that maximum number will be adjusted from 200 to 400 attendees from 1 August. Mass events and nightlife will certainly remain out of the question until August 31, but the Security Council would like to take a first look towards September.

Maggie warns

Everything stands or falls with the number of corona infections, and that has started to rise again in recent days. “If that remains the case, the following easings will certainly not be able to continue,” Health Minister Maggie De Block (Open Vld) warned earlier on the VRT.

Last week, the Consultative Committee of the various governments in our country already decided to require oral masks in shops and shopping centers, cinemas, theater, concert and conference rooms, auditoriums, places of worship, museums and libraries, after consultation with the experts in the GEES. “This list may change over time, depending on the epidemiological situation of our country,” the cabinet of Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès said at the time.
