NEW DELHI – Various states in India urged to announce a new epidemic of a new mysterious disease following the outbreak of the deadly “black fungus” case.

Health authorities in India issued the alert to various states.

An infection that is usually rare, called mucormycosis, has a 50% mortality rate, with some patients only being saved by removing the eye or jawbone.

But in recent months, India has experienced thousands of black fungus cases affecting both recovering and recovering Covid-19 patients.

Doctors suspect there may be a link between the disease and steroids used to treat Covid patients.

Diabetics are at particular risk, with doctors saying the disease appears to occur 12 to 15 days after recovering from Covid.

On Thursday, India’s Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal wrote to 29 Indian states asking them to declare the black fungus disease an epidemic.

In doing so, the ministry will be able to more closely monitor what is happening in each state, and allow for better integration of treatment.

It is unclear exactly how many cases have occurred across the country, which is currently in the grip of a second, deadly Covid-19 wave that has killed tens of thousands of people.

Last week, Maharashtra State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope, said there were 1,500 cases of infection in the state, which was one of the worst affected in India’s second wave of Covid-19.
