The story of The Wizard of Oz is being given a new look. After a long series of film versions, animation adaptations and television series, the story around Dorothy returns to the silver screen, reports Variety.
It is unknown when the film will be released. Nothing is known about the cast either. Nicole Kassell, who previously ran three episodes of the series Watchmen under which the pilot took care of, will direct the new edition.
Not much is yet known about the story of the girl who ends up in the magical land of Oz during a storm, but studio New Line promises a contemporary version of the saga. According to Variety the studio hints at using elements from the iconic 1939 film adaptation starring Judy Garland. For example, it could be that Dorothy’s famous red shoes are returning from that movie.
The book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum was published in 1900. The Library of Congress, the symbolic “national library” of the United States, has named the work “America’s best and most beloved homegrown fairy tale.”
