The Russian Chrysanthemum missile is one of the most powerful anti-tank weapons. At the same time, work is being done to improve its lethality.
According to Spanish journalists who visited the “Army-2023” exhibition, Russia for the first time demonstrated to the public new modifications of the 9М123 “Chrysanthemum” ATGM, which can be used both by ground anti-tank systems and by helicopter, foreign agencies write.
The new 9M123M missile, called by the manufacturer “armor destroyer”, is capable of penetrating steel with a thickness of 1.1 meters (according to Rosoboronexport – 1.2 m). There is nothing to oppose many modern products.
Thanks to its characteristics, it can become the most optimal ATGM for Russia, writes Defensa.
It is indicated that the 9M123M can be used by both portable systems and mobile platforms, for example, by the Chrysanthemum-S anti-aircraft missile defense system.
Another modification was the 9M123MF missile, the characteristics of which were not disclosed by the manufacturer. However, it was stated that it was designed to defeat attacking battle formations and fortified positions. As the post explains, this ATGM may be a version specially adapted for attack helicopters like the Mi-28NE.
