The latest beta of macOS Sequoia 15.1 has revealed model numbers that hint at future hardware updates from Apple. These discoveries provide insight into the possible releases of new iPhone, iPad, and Mac models.
Developer aaronp613 has identified a total of eight new iPhone model numbers in macOS 15.1 that begin with “iPhone17” and “iPhone18.” These could indicate the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 generations, or alternatively different versions of the iPhone 16 for different markets or with specific modem configurations.
New Mac model numbers
Also discovered were eight new model numbers for Macs, starting with “Mac16.” These numbers could indicate the next generation of MacBook Pro models, possibly equipped with the new M4 chip. It is expected that Apple could introduce these new models in the winter, but without official confirmation, only speculative assumptions are possible.
New iPad model numbers
Four new model numbers with the prefix “iPad17” were found for iPads. Following the launch of new iPad Pro and iPad Air models in May 2024, this could indicate future versions of the iPad or iPad mini. There is also a possibility that these new models will be equipped with the announced M5 chip.
