North Korea has reportedly launched what could be a ballistic missile. The other in less than a week.
This is stated by the Coast Guard in Japan, according to Reuters. They report that it may be a “ballistic rocket-like object”.
The South Korean news site Yonhap reports at the same time that North Korea has launched several unidentified projectiles into the sea.
According to the South Korean authorities, Tuesday’s rocket was fired from North Korea towards the sea in the east, and ended up outside Japan’s economic zone.
“It is very unfortunate that North Korea continues to fire rockets,” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters, according to Reuters. He adds that the UN has just discussed how to respond to last week’s launch, which North Korea claims was a hypersonic rocket. South Korean authorities have cast doubt on whether the rocket was hypersonic, as North Korea claims.
If the information is correct, then it is the second rocket test from North Korea in less than a week.
US UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield has commented on last week’s rocket launch.
– These actions increase the dangers of miscalculations and escalation and are a threat to the stability of the area, she says.
– Our goal is still full nuclear disarmament for the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea, for its part, says according to Reuters that they are ready for dialogue, but only if the United States and others end “hostile policies” that involve sanctions and military exercises.
