New Minister of Agriculture promises low-cost food sales and strengthening trade with Haiti

The new Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, announced that marketing, the implementation of genetic technology and greater attention to the Dominican countryside will be the strategic axes that the agricultural sector will adopt to combat the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cruz announced these measures and added that in terms of marketing Trade will be boosted with the sale of low-cost food.

We are going to strengthen trade with the neighboring country of Haiti, our closest commercial partner, opening the border market up to 6 or 7 days a week, “said the minister.

He added that “the financing line will be strengthened with the injection of five billion pesos announced by President Luis Abinader to the Agricultural Bank, with a rate of zero percent, to increase and diversify the production of the field.”

The official explained that in terms of production, the country seeks to obtain the best genetics of bovine production, in order to increase the supply of meat and milk, in addition to promoting other areas of livestock.

Explained that Work will also be done to improve irrigation infrastructures, with the construction of reservoirs and lagoons through pipes, in order to bring water to the areas with the highest concentration of production and that do not have irrigation channels to guarantee no loss in crops.

The Minister offered this information when swearing in the new director of the Tobacco Institute (Intabaco), Rafael Almonte Guzmán, as well as the new board of directors of that institution.
