New Milan signing Marco Pellegrino has spoken about his departure from Platense, his first days with Stefano Pioli and where he fits best on the pitch.
The 21-year-old Argentine defender joined the Rossoneri for a fee of around €3.5m, signing a five-year contract with the club. He impressed last season for Platense, scoring one goal in 17 league appearances.
Pellegrino is Milan’s ninth recruit in the summer transfer window, after various reinforcements such as Christian Pulisic, Samuel Chukwueze and Yunus Musah.
Speaking at a press conference via MilanNewsPellegrino first talked about his move to Milan.
“When you start playing football, many dreams come to mind. I was playing with Platense until a few days ago and it was already a dream, now I’m here and everything went very well, everything was very fast.
He was asked how the first days at the club went.
“I have only just arrived, but I have already done several training sessions. The group helps me a lot, but Pioli is also a great person. He gives me a hand from a tactical and technical point of view.
“Obviously we know the history of Milan, one of the strongest and most important teams in the world. It’s a big responsibility to be here, it’s wonderful.
The 21-year-old has revealed his two footballing idols.
“As I said before, Sergio Ramos, but also Paolo Maldini from Milan.”
Pellegrino spoke of the reception he received in Lombardy.
“I arrived in Milan and found something new. I saw the facilities, the team and everything is amazing, the quality is very high.
He talked about his best position on the pitch.
“I’m a centre-back, but I’ve also played as a full-back in a three-man defence. Of course, I recognize myself as a left central defender.
The 21-year-old has commented on his adjustment to life with the Rossoneri.
“We’ll see… now I want to adapt to the team as well as possible. I will use all the time here, and we will achieve our goals. For me, it’s a big step forward, I’m here to listen to advice, increase my minutes and be called back.
Finally, Pellegrino spoke about his new Milan teammates.
“I have already spoken to them, they have welcomed me. I study their position at the tactical level. I will talk to them to learn everything I can.
