In connection with its E3 press conference, Nintendo revealed that a new game in the Metroid series, Metroid Dread, will be released on October 8 this year for the Nintendo Switch.
Metroid Dread will be the first 2D Metroid game in 19 years. This is in contrast to the Metroid Prime series, which are 3D games in the first person.
Nintendo also mentioned that Metroid Prime 4 is still under development. The existence of that game was announced for the first time in 2017 and since then no more than one logo has been displayed. In 2019, the game’s development, which was initially handled by Bandai Namco, will restart with Nintendo’s own studio Retro Studios.
