New meteor over southern Norway – VG

NEW METEOR: A meteor entered the atmosphere over West Telemark on Sunday night. The picture is from the Norwegian Meteor Network from Voksenlia in Oslo.

A meteor has been observed in several places in southern Norway on Sunday night.

Published:

– It has probably undoubtedly been a pretty strong light, says Tor E. Aslesen, press contact for the Norwegian Astronomical Society to VG.

VG has received tips that the meteor has been observed from, among others, Ringerike, Eina on Toten, Fredrikstad and Majorstuen in Oslo.

It was registered with the Norwegian Meteor Network at 18.09 on Sunday evening. Several cameras have picked up the meteor, including in Larvik, Oslo and in Lunner.

It entered the atmosphere above West Telemark 113 kilometers altitude. After that, it has pulverized at an altitude of around 25 kilometers before it has stopped in the sea outside Telemark, it seems for the time being, Aslesen states.

– It is doubtful that there has been any precipitation, and if it has, it has landed in the sea anyway, Aslesen says.
