RClosed halls, separate recreations, gym classes exclusively outdoors. The Education Ministers of the three Communities have agreed to tighten sanitary measures in schools from next Wednesday, after the request to this effect formulated on Friday by the Consultative Committee (Codeco).
Rather than general measures, the three ministers propose to act more forcefully where the risks are greatest. Thus, in the municipalities of the country where the virus is identified as growing strongly, a class will henceforth be closed until Easter as soon as a single positive case is detected there.

Good ventilation of the premises will be the subject of a new information campaign in schools. As far as possible, recess will be organized separately, all activities having to be carried out in the same bubble-class.

The refectories will be closed. Children will eat in class or outside. Gym classes will also be organized outdoors.

In addition, the ministers ask parents to ensure that their children no longer go to school by public transport, but by car, bicycle or on foot to avoid any close contact on buses, trains or trams. All visits by people outside the schools are also prohibited. Finally, teacher meetings should be held remotely.
Everyone to school after Easter
All of these measures will apply from this Wednesday March 24 until the Easter holidays. The goal remains to ensure 100% return to school for all face-to-face students from the start of Easter, assured the three ministers in chorus.
These measures come after the request for additional measures in schools formulated Friday by the Consultation Committee.
“This request from the Concertation Committee surprised us,” Flemish Minister Ben Weyts commented on Sunday. “All the studies have shown that school is not a hotbed of the epidemic. Rather than asking what the school can do for you (the Codeco), you better ask yourself what you can do for the school, ”attacked Mr. Weyts.
For the three ministers, it would indeed be more useful for the federal government to think of vaccinating teachers as a priority if it wants to stem contamination in schools, and provide rapid self-tests in establishments.
