“New Mass Shooting in Allen, Texas: Shooter Kills Eight in Shopping Center”

A new killing mass in the United States. A shooter opened fire on Saturday, May 6, in a shopping center in the Dallas, Texas area. He killed eight people before being shot himself, authorities said. Seven other people were transported to nearby hospitals. “Three are undergoing emergency surgery and four” are in stable condition, according to the fire chief.

An off-duty police officer was in the mall on another matter when shots rang out around 3:30 p.m. (9:30 p.m. CET), local police chief Brian Harvey said. The agent “heard gunshots, surrendered on site (…) confronted the suspect and neutralized” individual, the local police chief reported.

The suspect acted alone

The killings caused scenes of panic at the Allen Premium Outlets, a large shopping center where many customers had come to do their weekend shopping. Video images broadcast by the channel CNN (article in English) show people running out of the mall as gunshots ring out.

The identity of the shooter has not been released. There was initially talk of a possible second shooter, according to authorities, but police now believe the incapacitated man has “acted alone”. The latter was wearing tactical gear, according to witnesses interviewed by CNN.
