‘New MacBooks will use MagSafe chargers again’

That reports a source familiar with the plans to the news agency Bloomberg. Apple would introduce two new MacBook Pros in 2021 with 14-inch and 16-inch screens.

Current MacBooks charge via a USB-C connection that can also be used to connect accessories. More and more laptop makers are switching to this universal port.

By reverting to MagSafe again, MacBooks would use a specific cord to provide power. Apple used MagSafe for Macs for years. By using magnets, the cable can be pulled loose without, for example, breaking the connection in the port.

iPhone 12

MagSafe already made its return in the new one late last year iPhone 12s, which can be charged with a magnetic charger on the back. This charging method is offered in addition to the Lightning port that has been around for some time.

According to the source, the laptop will get a “much faster processor”. With this, Apple seems to have surpassed its M1 chip, introduced last year, while it was praised for its performance compared to competitor Intel.
