The Austrian government states that a new lockdown will only apply to unvaccinated people. Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg warns of “a pandemic among people who are not protected against the virus”. He no longer wants to take strict measures against citizens who are already contributing to the fight against the virus. The government therefore wants to avoid a new general lockdown. According to the plans, unvaccinated people will have to go into lockdown if the problems with infected citizens increase. Unvaccinated people must then stay at home permanently and are only allowed outside for necessities such as groceries or of course a visit to the doctor.
About 62 percent of the Austrian population has now been fully vaccinated. There are now 220 Covid patients in the intensive care units of hospitals, a sharp increase and comparable to the situation six months ago. When that number rises to 600, the freedom restrictions for unvaccinated people will come into effect. (…) Earlier this week, the government announced that from next month most workers in Austria will have to demonstrate that they have been vaccinated against corona, tested negative or have been cured. The health authorities are going to do samples in companies. Employees who cannot show proof of their corona status risk a fine of 500 euros. Employers have to pay 3,600 euros, the government decided.

Incidentally, it is not considered likely for the time being that the pandemic will get so out of hand that the measures for unvaccinated people will actually be introduced nationally, wrote The Local earlier this week. However, much stricter measures may apply locally in the country where the winter sports season is approaching.
