New start for Japan’s Princess Mako in the Big Apple
Princess Mako of Japan (30) is deeply in love: so much so that she left her aristocratic life behind to marry the commoner Kei Komuro (30). With the wedding, the 30-year-old niece of the Japanese emperor Naruhito (61) lost her title. She also waived her dowry of around one million euros. The couple is now daring to restart in New York. And her new everyday life in the Big Apple should really be completely different from what the princess was used to before …
One-room apartment is Mako and Kei’s new love nest
Mako and her Kei have moved into a one-room apartment near the Hudson River in the “Hell’s Kitchen” district of Manhattan. Sounds small at first, but the formerly royal couple still doesn’t have to do without luxury. For around 3,800 euros a month, there is a complete XXL view of the city’s skyline, including a spacious balcony. The noble equipment also includes a fitness center, a rooftop lounge, a library and a golf simulator for residents of the residential complex. Could have actually hit her worse!

Incidentally, Mako and Kei met while studying at the “International Christian University” in Japan. Four years passed between their engagement and the couple’s wedding. The delay was due to negative headlines about Kei’s mother’s financial affairs. In a later interview, however, Kei described this as a “misunderstanding”. (lsc)
